Ivan Yang, Lydia Sham to be Asian Games flag bearers

The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, has named basketball player Ivan Yang and wushu athlete Lydia Sham as the SAR’s flag-bearers for the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Saturday. In a statement, the committee said representatives of the Hong Kong, China, contingent attended a flag-raising and team welcome ceremony held by the Asian Games organising committee at Nagoya Port Garden Pier on Thursday. The delegation joined those from the Chinese mainland and Macao, with the three teams exchanging best wishes and aiming for outstanding achievements at the Games. Wong Po-kee, chef de mission of the SAR contingent, said the athletes had undertaken long-term, dedicated training and were fully ready for the Games. "I hope they will enjoy competing and engaging with Asia’s top athletes, give their best performance, and achieve new heights," he said. "At the same time, I call on everyone to support and stand behind every athlete." Yang captained the men’s under-22 team at last year’s National Games and represented the city at the Fiba Asia Cup 2029 pre-qualifiers this year. Sham will be competing in her third Asian Games after winning gold last year in both the women’s Changquan–Jianshu–Qiangshu combined event at the World Games...
